Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu Friday urged his Telangana counterpart K.Chandrasekhar Rao to immediately start counselling for admissions into engineering and medical colleges as more than two lakh students are anxiously waiting for it.
Voicing his concern over the delay in starting the admission process, Naidu wrote a letter to Rao saying his government is ready to take up counselling for admissions into professional colleges.
The Andhra chief minister said due to delay, the students of both the states had started migrating to other states, causing financial and psychological burden to parents and adversely affecting colleges of both the states.
Naidu pointed out that as per the direction of the Supreme Court, admissions in professional colleges have to be completed by July 31 and the classes have to start from August 1.
As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, the existing admission quota and process for admissions into professional colleges will continue for 10 years to ensure equal opportunities for all students in the successor states, he added.
The Telangana government last week decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court to extend the deadline for completing the admission process by end of October, citing insufficient number of bureaucrats to work out the modalities of the fee reimbursement scheme.
It has already announced that it will not reimburse the fee of students from Andhra Pradesh studying in Hyderabad or other parts of Telangana.
