A 28-year-old man, who works as a driver, was held while carrying Rs 49.96 lakh in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes in a car in Delhi, police said on Monday.
The driver, who was identified as Dinesh and a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, was held at Tikri border in north-west Delhi.
He told the police that he was transporting the cash on the instruction of a Pitampura-based property dealer.
"Dinesh during interrogation told the Police that he was carrying the cash on the instruction of Anuj Gupta," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vijay Kumar said.
Gupta is a resident of Pitampura and deals in finance and property in Delhi, Kumar added.
"We have informed the income tax officials who are investigating the matter," the DCP added.
