Defending champion Moreno Hofland claimed a circuit race victory Monday in the first stage of 2014 Tour of Hainan in Chengmai, putting on the first yellow jersey of the cycle race.
The Belkin Pro Cycling Team rider also won the green jersey that represents the best sprinter while Chinese Ma Guangtong from Hengxiang Cycling Tram was awarded the blue jersey that represents the best Asian rider, reports Xinhua.
"Thanks to my teammate for winning the first stage, I believe we could go further if we could continue cooperating well with each other, and bring into play our team spirit," Hofland said.
This year's Tour of Hainan will last nine days, and the next stage will take place from Chengmai to Haikou, the capital city of Hainan, covering 207.2 kilometres.
