City football giants East Bengal Saturday became the first among the four clubs nominated by I-League outfit Pune FC to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and in turn nominated Atletico de Kolkata, cricketer Sourav Ganguly and Shillong Lajong FC to follow suit.
The challenge was done at the East Bengal ground after Saturday's training session.
Captain Harmanjyot Khabra, vice-captain Gurwinder Singh, Robert Lalthlamuana, Abhishek Das, Subodh Kumar and Leo Bertos sat on the chair at the ground while Deepak Mondal, Abhra Mondal, Safar Sardar, Baljit Sahni, Md. Rafique and Cavin Lobo dumped a bucket of ice water over their heads.
Coach Armando Colaco nominated Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Atletico de Kolkata, Ganguly and I-League outfit Shillong Lajong FC to follow suit.
The challenge is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly called Lou Gehrig's disease, and encourage donations for research.
The challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads and then nominating others to do the same.
