The Election Commission on Friday countermanded the May 12 Assembly election in south Bengaluru's Jayanagar constituency following the death of BJP candidate B.N. Vijaya Kumar.
"In view of the death of Bharatiya Janata Party's contestant in the fray from the Jayanagar assembly constituency, election is being countermanded and postponed to a later date," said the constituency's Returning Officer Mamatha in a statement here.
Vijaya Kumar, who was the sitting member, died here on early Friday. He was 59.
