Ecuador seeking to exploit Uruguay's 'weaknesses'

Ecuador will attempt to exploit the weaknesses in Uruguay's defence when the teams meet in a World Cup qualifier in Montevideo next month, tricolor coach Gustavo Quinteros said.

Ecuador are third in the South American zone standings with 17 points, three points behind second-placed Uruguay, Xinhua reported on Friday.

"I think that we can win. They are a strong team but they also have their weaknesses," Quinteros was quoted as saying by ESPN Brasil.

"Venezuela and Peru missed clear scoring chances against them that could have made Uruguay's situation (in the qualifiers) very different. They made several defensive mistakes. We will have to apply ourselves and concentrate. We also have to be defensively solid otherwise they are going to punish us," he added.

Ecuador will follow their clash with Uruguay with a duel against Venezuela in Quito five days later. Uruguay, meanwhile, will travel to Santiago for a match against Chile.
