An attempt by authorities in Bihar's Begusarai town to remove a Hanuman temple sparked street protests, officials said.

Scores of residents and Bajrang Dal activists took to the streets as news spread that the temple built on a road in Lohia Nagar may be removed.

Bajrang Dal members blocked roads and shouted slogans against the district administration.

To bring the situation under control, officials assured the demonstrators that an investigation would be ordered to know who issued the notice to remove the temple.
