Environmentalists staged a dharna here Monday to create awareness about the Hindon river.
Waterman Rajendra Singh said: "We should stop dumping garbage in the river."
Agreeing with him, city mayor Teluram Kamboj said he would write to the municipal commissioner to stop dumping garbage in the river.
A painting competition was also organised on the occasion for schoolchildren who petitioned the municipal commissioner to protect the Hindon from pollution.
Other environmentalists who participated included Col. Tejendra Pal Singh Tyagi, Sanjay Kashyap, Vijay Baghel, Vikrant Sharma and Prashant Vats.
Others present included representatives from the Vyapar Mandal, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, Bar Association, Residents Welfare Association Federation Ghaziabad, Harnandi Sehyog Manch, Jal Biradri, Paryavaran Sachetak Dal, Gandhi Vichar Manch and Rasam.
