A man convicted of murder, who fled from a jail here with two undertrials, has been arrested, a West Bengal minister said Saturday.
"Azim Mistry, serving a life sentence for murder, was caught from Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district late Friday night," Correctional Administration Minister Haider Aziz Safwi told IANS.
Mistry and undertrials Qutubuddin Laskar and Shamim Haldar escaped from the Alipore Central Correctional Home by scaling a wall early Friday.
Following the incident, the jail superintendent and two wardens were suspended for dereliction of duty, Safwi said.
"A massive hunt has been launched for the other two. We will arrest them soon," Safwi added.
