The European Union can help India in the area of water management, newly appointed European Union Ambassador to India, Tomasz Kozlowski, said on Wednesday.

"We met minister for water management (Uma Bharti). Experts from the EU have discussed the issue of water management in India," Kozlowski said in a media interaction here.

Stating that the European countries had faced similar problems, he said "our solutions can be effective for India".

"We can give suggestions and provide expertise. We have a set of standards at the EU level," the ambassador said.

According to Kozlowski, the EU was interested in all major flagship Indian projects.

Apart from water management, he said the EU was interested in the 'Clean India' initiative, urban development, energy, renewable energy, information and communication technology (ICT), Digital India, science and technology, innovation, education and cultural exchanges.

"My job is to combine different inputs from the EU member-states and present a combined solution," the veteran Polish diplomat said.

"We want to mobilise European businesses for this."

Another big sector of cooperation is global issues like climate change and sustainable development.

"The Paris deal (on climate change) is a very good example of EU-India cooperation," Kozlowski said.

In terms of political relationship between the 28-nation politico-economic union and India, he said the two sides have identified cyber security and maritime security in the Indian Ocean as issues "on which we can have dialogue".

"I have already discussed this with the ministry of external affairs," he said.

The ambassador added that, nowadays, about 70 percent of legislation in EU member- states is based on EU legislation, including in foreign and security policies.
