The European Union (EU) Monday announced it was strengthening sanctions against Syria.
According to an official statement, 211 people and 63 entities from Syria will now be subject to EU sanctions, Xinhua reported. The legal act, including the names of the designated persons and entities, will be published in the EU Official Journal Tuesday and will enter into force at the same time.
On Monday, the EU Council also reached a political agreement to impose an export ban on jet fuel and relevant additives being exported to Syria. Legal acts bringing this agreement into force were yet to be adopted.
