A former Indian Army officer was arrested here for demanding a bribe of Rs.30 lakh from a businessman, on behalf of a CBI officer, the investigative agency said on Thursday. The businessman was arrested too.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the accused was caught red-handed from Delhi's Khan Market while accepting Rs.15 lakh - a part of the demanded bribe - in return for facilitating favours in the trial of a case of fraud pending against the businessman.
"It has been alleged that the bribe was demanded by the ex-army officer in the name of a CBI officer of superintendent rank.
"The role of the concerned officer of CBI is also being scrutinised, while a case of disproportionate assets is also being investigated by the CBI against the arrested ex-army officer," the CBI said.
The arrested people were produced in a court on Thursday and sent to two days police custody.
