CPI-M veteran and former West Bengal minister Kanti Ganguly on Friday alleged that he along with his son and driver were assaulted here by Trinamool Congress goons. The ruling party rubbished the allegations.
The incident happened at a school for disabled at Mukundapur area in the city when Ganguly along with his driver and son were allegedly attacked by nearly 40-50 men.
"I had come here to inspect area on poll eve. But suddenly 40-50 men, all belonging to Trinamool attacked me. My son was badly beaten and driver too has been beaten," said Ganguly.
Ganguly said he had come to the area following reports of attacks on his party cadres by Trinamool goons.
"Trinamool goons are on rampage and the party is hell bent to turn the Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls into a farce," said Ganguly.
Asked if he had filed a police complaint, the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader replied: "What's the use? Police have either been mute spectator or acting at behest of Trinamool."
Refuting Ganguly's charges, Trinamool candidate contesting the KMC polls from the area Ananya Banerjee questioned what the former minister was doing at the school a night ahead of the polls.
"The question is what Ganguly was doing at the school which is to be used as a polling booth tomorrow (Saturday)? Yes, our people had gone to the school but there was no attack on him," said Banerjee.
