Fiji and neighbouring Vanuatu will sign a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop sports education, the Fijian government announced Tuesday.

Viliame Naupoto, Fiji's minister for youth and sports and his Vanuatu counterpart Anthony Wright are scheduled to sign the MoU at Fiji's tourist town of Nadi Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Information, reports Xinhua.

The MoU is "for the two countries to assist each other in the areas of physical education and sports cooperation and also develop mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange", said Josefa Sania, permanent secretary of Fiji's Ministry of Youth and Sports.

"The two countries through the MoU wish to foster, promote and strengthen technical assistance in the development of sports programs and physical education curriculum and activities. There will be a regular exchange of sports delegation, experts, coaches and specialists, and exchange of information, methodologies in sports and technical literature," Sania said.

"Teachers, coaches, and sports specialists of the two countries are expected to attend coordinated seminars, courses and scientific lectures organised in both countries covering topics in physical education and sports," he said.

Both Fiji and Vanuatu are expected to send their athletes to participate at the Pacific Games to be held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from July 4 to July 18 next year.
