The Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday informed the high court that the final inquiry report against BJP MP Virender Kashyap, who was allegedly caught on camera accepting cash, would be submitted within two weeks.

Disposing a petition filed by petitioner Devashish Bhattacharya, who sought to hold a free and fair inquiry, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice D.C. Chaudhary was informed by the advocate general that the government was going to file the final report within two weeks.

Bhattacharya sought to quash police inquiry report dated March 2, 2010.

He had alleged that the inquiry conducted by the state government was not fair and was only aimed at hushing up the matter.

Earlier, the director general of police had informed the court that notwithstanding the report dated March 2010 submitted by the special investigating team, the matter was being inquired by the state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau.

He said a case was registered on March 6, 2014, under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Kashyap.

Official sources said a video CD was in circulation in January 2010 in which the sitting MP Kashyap was seen accepting bribe from a private party for helping it in securing permission for setting up an educational institution in the state.

At that time Prem Kumar Dhumal-led Bharatiya Janata Party government was in the state.
