Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed that responsibility for section-wise cleaning of drains be fixed for better accountability of the officials.
He also instructed agencies/stakeholders to have an empirical database of all such action points for improved analysis so as to enable better long-term solutions.
The Lt. Governor also sought area-wise reports on de-silting and installation of pumps.
Baijal gave these directions in a meeting held to review the progress of desilting of stormwater drains in the national capital. The meeting was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Public Works Department Minister Satyendar Jain.
Baijal and Kejriwal stressed the need to leverage latest technology for the task and asked the PWD officials to explore the possibility of deploying a greater number of super-sucker machines, so as to remove silt from drains and prevent their re-clogging.
The PWD officials said the department has identified 155 vulnerable locations for water-logging and arrangements have been made to tackle the same.
