Ram Kapse, a senior BJP leader and former Lt.Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, died early Tuesday following prolonged illness, a party spokesperson said. He was 82.
Kapse was ailing for nearly eight years. He died at his Kalyan residence in the district around 4 a.m., the spokesperson said.
His last rites will be performed in Kalyan later on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have condoled his death.
Kapse, who was born on December 1, 1933, was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Thane.
