Former South Africa cricketer Bodi named in fixing probe

Former South Africa player Gulam Bodi was charged as an "intermediary" cricketer at the centre of a match-fixing scandal in the country's domestic Twenty20 competition on Thursday.

Bodi has been charged with contriving to fix, or otherwise improperly influence, aspects of the 2015 Ram Slam T20 Challenge Series under Cricket South Africa's Anti-Corruption Code.

Bodi played for South Africa in 2007 in two one-day internationals against Zimbabwe and a Twenty20 international against the West Indies. The 37-year-old left-hand top order batsman was born in India but emigrated to South Africa as a teenager, representing the Proteas in an Under-19 World Cup.

"Following our investigations and due process, we have reached a point where we can confirm that Mr Bodi is the intermediary who was charged by CSA in early December 2015 under the CSA Anti-Corruption Code," said CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat in a statement on Thursday.

"Mr Bodi is presently co-operating with the CSA Anti-Corruption officials. We now await his response to the charges and the matter will take its course in accordance with the process outlined in the Code."

Bodi has been provisionally suspended, and may not be involved in any capacity in any match or any other kind of function, that is authorised, organised, sanctioned, recognised or supported in any way by CSA.

The 37-year-old played two One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 for the Proteas in 2007.
