In a tragic incident, four children were buried alive at a Uttar Pradesh village when a mud mound caved in on them on Friday, police said.

More than half-a-dozen people were also injured and have been admitted to a local medical facility.

The incident took place at Tikauta village in Kudh Fatehgarh in Sambhal district where the earth mound suddenly collapsed, burying four children and a number of others, including some women, police said.

While rescuers managed to pull out more than six people, the four children were suffocated under the mud piled atop them.

The condition of three of the injured was said to be critical.
