Four crew members were killed when an Ethiopian military cargo plane crash-landed at the airport here in the Somali capital, airport officials said.

The Mogadishu international airport was closed after the incident. There were two other crew members but it was not clear what happened to them, Xinhua reported.

The Ethiopian Air force plane was reportedly carrying weapons and ammunition for the African Union peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

"The plane which looks like a military one crashed near the airport and immediately caught fire," a witness said.

Local media said explosions occurred on the plane after the incident.
