At least four people have died and over 60,000 affected by floods in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts in northern West Bengal, state Disaster Management Minister Javed Khan said on Tuesday.
He said the areas affected by incessant rain and flood include Siliguri and its surrounding areas in Darjeeling district, Dooars in Jalpaiguri, Kalchini, Madarihat and Kumargam in Alipurduar and parts of Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur districts.
"Till Tuesday we have received reports of four people dying in the floods, while over 60,000 people have been affected across the three districts," said Khan.
Earlier in the week, in Darjeeling, at least 10 people were crushed to death in two different incidents of house collapse caused due to landslides.
Prominent rivers of the region including Teesta, Torsha and Mahananda have been flowing over the danger mark and the administration has issued red alert both in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts.
