Four militants were sentenced to life imprisonment by a West Tripura District Court on Tuesday for their involvement in a series of bomb explosions here in 2008.
Additional District and Session Judge S.B. Datta found the four ATTF (All Tripura Tiger Force) militants guilty in the October 1, 2008 series bomb explosions in Agartala on the eve of Durga Puja festival.
"Five other accused in the case are absconding. Police have continued their hunt to nab the fleeing extremists," Public prosecutor Ranada Prasad Roy told reporters.
"Besides awarding them life sentence, the judge slapped fines ranging from Rs.3,000 to Rs.5,000 on each of the convicts," he added.
Over 80 people, many of them women, were injured, in the series of explosions triggered by improvised explosives by the outlawed ATTF guerrillas.
