Four Turkish military personnel were killed and a fifth one was wounded after a military helicopter went down on Monday over a residential area in Istanbul, officials said.
Images of the crash-site in Sancaktepe, a residential neighbourhood on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, were broadcast on the television channel CNNTürk, Xinhua news agency reported.
"A military helicopter has crashed for unknown reasons. Four soldiers have been killed and one wounded," Ali Yerlikaya, the Governor of Istanbul, said in a statement.
The helicopter was a US-manufactured UH-1 Huey, a veteran two-blade main and tail rotors model single turboshaft engine, the first US military, a turbine-powered helicopter which entered production in 1960 and of which over 16,000 units have been built since.
