Pakistan's army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday confirmed death sentences to four "hardcore terrorists" after they were found guilty of carrying out terrorist acts.

This is the first time Bajwa has confirmed death sentences of terrorists after he assumed office on November 30.

"Today Chief of Army Staff confirmed death sentences awarded to another 4 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offenses related to terrorism, including killing of innocent civilians, officials of Law Enforcement Agencies and Airport Security Force," an army statement said.

The convicts had planned and executed attacks on several key buildings, including Jinnah International Airport Karachi, Crime Investigation Department building in Karachi, Intelligence Office in the southern city of Sukkur, and convoy of Law Enforcement Agencies.

On the whole, they were involved in killing of 58 persons, among them a senior police officer in Karachi, and causing injuries to 226 others.

Firearms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by military courts.

The army courts were set up after the terrorist attack on an army school in December 2014 for the speedy trial of the terrorism-related crimes.
