The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange fell and closed below 11,000 points.
The blue-chip DAX index on Tuesday declined after a Russian fighter jet was downed and intensified tension between Russia and Turkey was feared, Xinhua reported.
The DAX index lost 158.32 points, or 1.43 percent, and closed at 10,993.99 points.
Volkswagen AG Vz was the only one among the DAX member shares that has risen. It added 5.46 percent.
On the other hand, Infineon Technologies AG, a semi conductor producer, slipped by 4.56 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG plunged by 3.98 percent. Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. slid by 3.08 percent. Henkel AG & Co. KGaA Vz, a laundry, home care and beauty care company, shrank by 2.81 percent. Vonovia SE, a residential real estate company, went down by 2.44 percent.
The turnover stood at 3.59 billion euros (around $3.81 billion).
Volkswagen AG Vz was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 475.89 million euros (around $505.6 million).
