Lawyers from Ghaziabad Wednesday protested outside the residence of union minister Gen. V.K. Singh (retd) demanding a bench of the Allahabad High Court in western Uttar Pradesh.
The lawyers first took out a procession from the Ghaziabad courts to Lok Sabha member V.K. Singh's house in Raj Nagar where they locked the residential premises from outside and staged a sit-in outside the main gate.
"It is a symbolic protest. We shall continue the protest till we get a high court bench in western Uttar Pradesh," said Ghaziabad Bar Association president Anil Pandit.
Pandit said V.K. Singh had promised to support them in their demand during his election campaign, but he had so far failed to fulfil his promise.
He said lawyers from 22 districts of western Uttar Pradesh were demanding a separate high court bench as Allahabad was 800 km away, and over 12 lakh cases were pending in the high court.
