An Institute of Public Health, with a global advisory board comprising Nobel laureate Amartya Sen and host of experts from the US and Britain, will come up in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday.
"An Institute of Public Health is being set up at Kalyani, Nadia. The Institute will develop as a global centre to address key areas of education, research and policy formulations in public health and related subjects," Banerjee posted on her Facebook page.
She said a Global Advisory Group will be set-up with eminent personalities to make the institute world-class.
There include Sen, Abhijit Binayak Banerjee of MIT, Michael Marmot, director, Institute of Health Equity in the University College of London, Lincoln Chenn, chairman, China Medical Board in US, Harvard School of Public Health, Massachusetts, Grant Miller, director, Stanford Centre for International Development, K. Srinath Reddy, president of the Public Health Foundation of India and K. Sujatha Rao, ex-union health secretary, she said in her post.
