The Goa government will accord top priority to education, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Wednesday, claiming that upcoming NIT and IIT projects in the state were examples of his government's commitment to the sector.

"Goa tops the list among literate states in the country. It also houses some of the reputed professional colleges in India. The upcoming NIT and IIT projects in South Goa will enable best of educational facilities to its citizens. Hence, the state government will never compromise in investing in education," Parsekar said.

He was speaking at a function organised to mark the release of grants to various colleges under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shikshan Abhiyan (RUSA) at the Goa secretariat.

Both the National Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Technology have set up temporary campuses in the state over the last few years, while permanent campuses are being set up for the two institutions.

"Our educational policy is one of the best in the country. If this money is utilised for infrastructure and in providing better learning aids, it will surely illuminate future generations," the Chief Minister said.
