The government Thursday said it has sent notices to 35,000 targeted people who have not filed income tax returns.
The Income Tax Department sent the letters to these people July 22, 2013, according to a statement released by the finance ministry here.
"With this latest batch, the Department has now issued letters in 2,10,000 high priority cases," it said.
These persons were part of the around 12 lakh non-filers identified as a result of data matching exercise.
"The response to this initiative has been very encouraging and a large number of tax payers have paid taxes and filed Income Tax Returns," the statement said.
