Several groups on Tuesday here protested Masarat Alam's release and burnt Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's effigy, blaming him as the main 'villain' behind the separatist leader's release.
Several Hindu groups, including Jain Samaj, Hindu Kranti Dal and Hindu Jagran Manch -- termed as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters -- also took part in the protest.
The BJP is in alliance with the Mufti-led government in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protestors also shouted slogans against Mufti, Alam and Pakistan and demanded the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister's removal and the separatist leader's re-arrest.
