The Haryana Police on Wednesday registered a criminal case following a complaint by dope-tainted grappler Narsingh Yadav that there was a conspiracy behind his testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
"We have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy). The matter is being investigated. Strict action will be taken if anyone is found to be behind this," Sonipat Deputy Inspector General (DIG) H.S. Doon told the media here.
In his complaint, Narsingh alleged that two junior wrestlers had spiked his food with banned drugs recently, which led to him testing positive in the dope test.
The 26-year-old grappler on Sunday flunked dope tests after his sample tested positive for a banned substance, jeopardising his chances of competing in what will be his second Summer Olympic Games. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) announced that the grappler's samples had failed the dope test which was conducted on June 25.
The wrestler, his coach and family have alleged that he has been framed in the doping scandal by opponents. However, Narsingh ran into futher trouble on Wednesday when another dope test conducted on July 5 also turned out to be positive.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhusan Sharan Singh had backed Narsingh on Monday, claiming that he was framed.
Narsingh, who managed to get the Rio ticket in the 74kg freestyle category after a series of controversies with two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, had claimed innocence and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
