The Delhi High Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a PIL seeking direction for the government to remove mobile towers installed in a village here over health issues.
A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw posted the matter for August 26 and asked petitioner to file an order passed by Allahabad High Court asking removal of mobile towers from residential areas in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The bench asked petitioner's advocate to file the order of Allahabad High Court after he submitted that the high court had asked authorities to remove mobile towers from residential areas in Nodia.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by Kapil Choudhary, said Tenkhand village in Okhla industrial area is 700 years old and there were more than 20 mobile towers which are creating health hazards for villagers.
Mobile phone companies have installed the towers in the residential area which is contrary to the policy of the central government. "As per the policy of the government no mobile tower can be installed in the residential area," it added.
The plea further said buildings in the village were old and not in a position to bear the load of the tower and due to which there was a danger of building collapse.
It further said people have started facing health problems from radiation discharged by the mobile towers and two people have died due to cancer.
