Heavy rain leads to flash floods in MP

Incessant rain since Saturday has led to floods in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, with several temples in Ujjain being inundated, officials said on Sunday.

Ujjain saw 310 mm of rain, leading to rise in the water level of Shipra and Gambhir rivers. Many temples on the banks of the Shipra were submerged in water up to the dome, said officials of the flood control department.

A large number of families in Ujjain were evacuated and were now taking shelter in 10 relief camps set up in the district.

Normal life was also affected in state capital Bhopal due to the incessant downpour, the officials said. Indore also recorded 128 mm of rain.

Rajgarh district has also been badly hit by the rain. District Collector Anand Kumar Sharma told IANS on Sunday that 41 people trapped in a hostel were rescued late on Saturday.
