Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has requested the central government to provide 5,000 direct-to-home (DTH) TV sets to the state, a statement said here Tuesday.
The chief minister has requested union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari for provide additional DTH TV sets to be installed in tribal areas, said the official statement.
It said that earlier on the request of Virbhadra Singh, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced 20,000 DTH TV sets for the state in May 2005.
"The (then) union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni in 2009 had informed that the Prasar Bharti had included Himachal Pradesh for distribution of 5,000 additional DTH sets in the DTH schemes of Doordarshan during the 11th Five Year Plan period. But the state has not received any DTH sets till now," said the statement.
The 20,000 DTH TV sets which the state received had been installed in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Bharmour and Pangi, all tribal areas of the state.
