Hindi writer Rajendra Yadav dead

Famed Hindi author Rajendra Yadav, whose novel "Saara Akash" was turned into a Bollywood movie, is dead. He was 84.

Yadav died here late Monday night after prolonged illness, said his former associate Gauri Nath.

Rajendra Yadav did his graduation and post-graduation from Agra university and for a short while moved to Kolkata where he joined "Gyanodaya".

His first novel was "Pret" (Ghost Speak) that was published in 1951. It was later retitled as "Saara Akash" in the 1960s. Nearly eight lakh copies were sold and filmmaker Basu Chatterjee later turned it into a film by the same name.

After coming to Delhi in 1964, he laid the foundation for 'Akshar Prakashan'. In 1986, he became the editor of literary monthly magazine "Hans" that had been set up by Munshi Premchand. Till now, he successfully published it.

He was board member of Prasar Bharati in 1999-2001.
