Hogg open to return as Perth Scorchers' coach in future

Veteran chinaman bowler Brad Hogg, who joined Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Melbourne Renegades on Monday, said he had no problems returning to the Perth Scorchers as a coach in the future.

The 45-year-old, who was unveiled by the Renegades franchise here, said his decision to switch was influenced by his Scorchers' coach Justin Langer's suggestion "to retire on a high" as he wanted to continue playing.

But despite that Hogg is ready to return to the Scorchers in the future to coach the young talents.

"The young guys in Perth need opportunities, I've been taking their overs. My chapter is finished in Western Australia. But there's no reason why I can't go back as a coach down the track," Hogg was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia's (CA) website.

"I've only got couple more years left in me and when you get opportunities like this, you've got to take it. I want to experience everything I can out of cricket."

Hogg further claimed that Langer only wanted the younger players which did not help his cause at Perth.

"(Langer's) one who wants the young players to have the opportunity and he wants to produce Australian cricketers, which is a great thing and what we're here for," he said.

"I was looking at it and seeing young stars like (Ashton) Agar playing in a World T20 and put in a position which he doesn't do for the Scorchers."

"(But) I still want to play cricket and I've got the opportunity at the Renegades now and as far as I'm concerned it's a win-win situation," he added.

Langer, however expressed shock at Hogg's decision, terming it as a "wrong decision".

"In my opinion he's made the wrong decision, that's okay, that's not my business," he said.

"He could have been involved with the Scorchers for the next five or 10 years because he's had such an impact, whether it was in coaching or marketing," the former Aussie Test opener added.
