Holistic learning is the need of the hour in our present education system, and young students should use digital technology to learn more about science and about the country, Minister of State for Electronics and IT K.J. Alphons said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the launch of Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) mobile app here, Alphons also urged students to be analytical in their approach to ensure a holistic development of the future generation.
"We want the students of this generation to use digital technology, learn science, learn more about India, and learn about the famous people who made science popular.
"I appeal our young talents to think, understand and be analytical," the Minister said.
In order to boost learning of science, technology and mathematics among the youth, eminent scientists and academicians associated with Vigyan Prasar are organising a nationwide science talent search examination "Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan" on November 26.
Alphons said that the talent search exam will provide a platform to the India's "generation next" to imbibe the values of science and technology for a better future.
A record number of over 91,000 students from 2,078 centres across the country are expected to take the online test on the same day, a government statement said.
"Students will attend the exam through the various digital devices like, mobile, tablet, laptop or desktop in line with the vision of Digital India Campaign," it added.
VVM is also going to attempt the Guinness Book of World Record for largest online science examination for school students.
Vigyan Prasar is an autonomous organisation under Department of Science and Technology and National Council of Education Research and Training of Human Resources and Development Ministry.
