The news that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's whirlwind romance which took off from the sets of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005 has come to an end, left Hollywood celebrities and their contemporaries surprised and sarcastic.

Actor George Clooney, who has worked with Pitt closely in "Ocean's Eleven" and its sequels, told eonline.com: "I didn't know that. I feel very sorry then. That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that."

Oscar winning songstress Adele, who was performing at a concert in New York, said: "I'm dedicating this show tonight to them, I was shocked when I woke up this morning."

Here are some of the reactions the celebrities gave on the split of Hollywood's A-list couple:

Alyssa Milano: WTF? Brad and Angelina?!. I'm crushed.

Emily Blunt: It's their business, and it's not for anybody else to comment on.

Luke Evans: It's very sad to hear.

Chrissy Teigen: Brad and Angelina. How am I supposed to go to work today?

Questlove: Everyone is serious as a heart attack with this 'I might actually have a chance! Talk Brangelina.

Josh Gad: Before we get too cavalier about it, let's remember that Brangelina was possibly the only thing still holding the USA together.

Colin Jost: Holy shit someone explain this Jolie-Pitt divorce in terms of skittles because I don't understand it.

Spencer Pratt: I feel bad for kids that aren't gonna get adopted by Brangelina now.

Patton Oswalt: Tower of Terror! Eggo! Skittles! Brad Pitt! I don't know why any of them are trending, but I'm running to my basement. It's over.

Boy George: It's sad about Brad and Angelina, but it's also none of our business!
