The union home ministry is likely to seek opinion of the law ministry on the Delhi government's missive for withdrawal of an order requiring proposed bills to be sent to the central government first, official sources said Sunday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has written to the home ministry seeking withdrawal of its 2002 order which directs the Delhi government to take approval of the ministry before passage of any bill in the assembly, officials said.

Delhi government officials said that Chief Secretary Sanjoy Kumar Srivastava has written to Home Secretary Anil Goswami on the issue.

The sources said that the home ministry is likely to seek legal opinion in the matter.

"Home ministry may refer the matter to the law ministry for its opinion," an official said.

AAP leaders have said there was no need for the Delhi government to send its Jan Lokpal bill to the central government for its prior approval, and have termed the home ministry directive as "unconstitutional".

AAP leader Sanjay Singh said the party can go to any length to get the bill passed.

"We are ready to go to any extent (on the Jan Lokpal bill)," he told reporters here.
