Around 2,500 kg of ammonium nitrate and 300 pieces of gelatin sticks were recovered in Jharkhand's Koderma district Tuesday, police said.

Following a tip-off, police chased a pick-up van that met with an accident near Jaynagar village in Koderma district, around 170 km from the state capital Ranchi.

The driver of the vehicle managed to escape.

Police seized 50 sacks of ammonium nitrate and the gelatin sticks from the vehicle. Each sack weighed 50 kg.

Ammonium nitrate and gelatin sticks are used for making mines and bombs.

Police sources said the explosives were meant to be supplied to Maoist guerrillas.
