Hundreds of cars were gutted in a series of blasts at a warehouse in China's Tianjin city, killing 44 people and leaving more than 500 injured, media reported on Thursday.

Rows upon rows of cars were destroyed, with flames and thick smoke engulfing the warehouse that stored dangerous goods. The vehicles were covered in layers of ash, China Daily reported.

Visuals showed a large area packed with cars that were gutted.

On Wednesday night, a string of blasts ripped through the warehouse in the city.
