Errol D'Souza has been appointed Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) for five years with effect from February 1, it was announced on Wednesday.
IIMA Board Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla made the announcement, according to an official statement.
A professor of economics and Dean of Faculty at IIMA, D'Souza holds an MA in Economics and had obtained his Ph.D as a University Grants Commission National Research Fellow from the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
On editorial board of several international journals, he is engaged in research in the areas of macroeconomics, development finance and public policy.
He has also worked on academic committees of the UGC and the Indian Council of Social Science Research, the Planning Commission and the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities, including as a member, Technical Advisory Committee on monetary policy.
D'Souza has also been on the academic council of Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Institute for Human Development, Delhi.
He had been interim Director of the IIMA after his predecessor and former professor at Harvard Law School Ashish Nanda resigned in April last year before the conclusion of his five-year tenure, citing personal reasons.
