A second-year student at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) here allegedly committed suicide on Monday by hanging himself inside his hostel room, a college source said.
"The body of Sagar Mondal (18), a resident of Nadia district's Haringhata,was found hanging from the ceiling of his room on Monday afternoon. It seems he committed suicide," the source said.
According to the college authorities, Mondal, a student of the five year BS-MS dual degree programme, was a bright student.
"He was all right till last evening when his friends last talked to him. However, he did not appear for the end semester examination this morning. While looking for him, his classmates found his body hanging in his room. It is shocking," the source said.
Police said that the time of death is yet to be confirmed. The body has been sent for an autopsy.
