Putting an end to the controvery on derecognition of the Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle (APSC) the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) on Sunday reinstated the recognition of the student body,.
The decision was taken following a meeting between the IIT-M's director, the dean of students and the student representatives of APSC.
Controvery arose recently after IIT-M revoked the recognition given to APSC for criticising the central government policies and also Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Several political parties condemned the derecognition of the APSC.
On Sunday the APSC representatives met IIT-M director and told him that the guidelinse for student bodies was put up on the institute's website only on April 18 while their meeting took place on April 14.
The student representatives were then asked to meet the dean of students.
"In view of the above, the dean of students reinstated the recognition of APSC as an independent student body, and after consultation with the APSC representatives, recommended Prof. Milind Brahme as the faculty advisor. Prof. Brahme has consented to advise APSC as required in the guidelines for independent student bodies," said a joint statement issued by IIT-M and APSC here on Sunday.
