India's first smart city, the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), Wednesday announced it had been conferred with the e-LETS award for the smart city's command and control centre from the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom).

The award was given Sunday by Nasscom president R. Chandrashekhar at the e-INDIA conference in Kovalam.

"With Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying great emphasis on setting up 100 smart cities in India, GIFT City can lead by example in realising this vision," Ramakant Jha, Chief Executive, GIFT City Co said in a statement here.

There are two parts of GIFT City's command and control centre, it said.

"The first part, platform, hosts all the Utilities and provides a complete view of the City infrastructure. The second part hosts CCTV Surveillance and tracking critical parameters like fire and safety, intelligent traffic management system and public address (PA) system for handling law and order in the City," the statement said.

"With the completion of phase- I infrastructure and the allotment for various commercial, residential and social facilities, GIFT City is rapidly emerging as a favored destination amongst Financial Services and IT companies and is setting an example for developing smart cities in India," the statement said.
