Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah Wednesday said the success of India's maiden Mars mission has made other nations "turn back and see".

In a statement here, he congratulated the Indian space scientists on the occasion.

Rosaiah said: "Today India has made a history by becoming the first country in the world to make it to Mars in its maiden attempt, which has made the world to turn back and see."

"It is a matter of great pride for each and every citizen of this great nation which has once again proved that the days of India becoming a super power are not far off," Rosaiah added.

In her message, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa said: "It is a matter of great pride for the country that our scientific community has been able to successfully place 'Mangalyaan' in orbit around the planet Mars today (Wednesday)."

"This is a historic achievement for India and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)," she added.

Congratulating the space scientists, DMK president M. Karuananidhi said the scientific instruments in the Mars Orbiter will enable India to get details about the presence of minerals and water.

He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for the support extended to the Indian space agency.
