Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis said that his visit would be a turning point in the relationship between the two countries, an official statement said on Monday.
He added that Latvia had already started food processing units as a joint venture with Indian partners.
"Latvia is focusing on transport and logistics... Building direct link and establishing direct contact through ports will establish close relations between the two countries," a statement from the Shipping Ministry said quoting the Latvian Prime Minister, whose five-day visit ended on Monday.
His remarks came during his visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) here on Saturday in the second leg of his visit.
JNPT Deputy Chairman Neeraj Bansal briefed the high-level delegation led by Kucinskis about the government's flagship Sagarmala programme and the opportunities that were expected to emerge "as the ports developed into engines of growth".
"The delegation was given a detailed tour of the port to observe various port operations and the implementation of various Ease of Doing Business initiatives," the statement said.
During his visit, Kucinskis also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called on President Ram Nath Kovind in Delhi.
