Police are investigating the case of an Indian-Canadian man, who was killed in a shootout with police in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Charnjit Singh Bassi, 45, was shot dead by police March 28 when he pulled his handgun out of a holster and fired at constable Michael Klarenbeek at a courthouse in Brampton.

Two police officers shot back, killing Bassi inside the courthouse, the Toronto Sun reported Monday.

Bassi was allegedly involved in drug trade, although he was never convicted.

He was officially unemployed for five years.

Police are investigating the possible motive behind the shooting.
