A Bahraini court has sentenced a 32-year-old Indian man to three years in jail for forging credit cards.

The High Criminal Court in Bahrain Monday convicted the Indian national of forgery and theft for using forged credit cards, the Gulf Daily News reported Tuesday.

However, the defendant said he had been framed by his employer.

He claimed he was assaulted, tied up and held captive for a month by his employers after he was caught stealing.

The accused is already serving a five-year sentence after the same court had found him guilty of defrauding the company out of 9,500 Bahraini dinar (around $25,100) last December.

Judges heard he stole identity documents and applied for credit cards in other people's names to withdraw cash from ATMs and settle bills in hotel in Bharain's capital Manama.

The defendant was identified from the ATM surveillance footage.
