An Indian man committed suicide at his rented accommodation in Oman, a media report said Tuesday.

Santhosh, 36, a craftsman who used to work at an antique shop in Muscat, was found hanging from a fan in his single room accommodation Sunday night, the Times Of Oman reported.

Santhosh's friends said he was suffering from some blood-related diseases and seemed worried.

He visited India two months ago for treatment.

According to his friends, Santhosh was also worried about his aling mother and was eager to go back as soon as possible.

Santhosh's friends said they don't know what prompted him to take this drastic step.

"On Sunday, we had a meeting with his sponsor. Santhosh was also present there. The sponsor assured him that he would keep the ticket ready for his return Monday but after all such assurances Santhosh took this drastic step," one of his friends was quoted as saying.

According to the report, after meeting the sponsor, his friends went to their work place and Santhosh returned to his room and allegedly committed suicide at around 10 p.m.

"We came to know about it around 11 p.m. By the time we rushed to his room, somebody had called the police. Now, the body has been transferred to the police mortuary. We are readying the papers to send the body back to India. We will be able to do that in two days," one of his friends said.

Santhosh is survived by his wife and two children.
